FAQ

AC Repair — Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my AC running but not cooling?

The usual causes are a dirty filter or coil restricting airflow, low refrigerant from a leak, a failing capacitor, or a frozen evaporator coil. If the outdoor unit is running but the air indoors is barely cool, shut it off and let it thaw before we arrive — running it frozen risks the compressor.

When is the best time to install air conditioning?

Spring and early summer. We install year-round, but booking before the first heat wave means shorter wait times and a comfortable house before you actually need it — rather than joining the queue during the week everyone else calls.

Should I add AC, or replace the whole system with a heat pump?

If your furnace is also aging, a heat pump is usually the better spend: it gives you the cooling you wanted plus more efficient heating from the same equipment, and it qualifies for utility rebates that a straight AC install does not. If the furnace is newer, a matched AC coil is the simpler answer. We'll price both.
