Do I need an electrician to get the EV charger rebate?
For the 240V outlet or circuit portion, yes — Tacoma Power requires a licensed electrician for that work, and proof of purchase is due within 90 days. PSE runs its own rebate with its own requirements. We are licensed for the work and file the paperwork as part of the job.
Will my panel support an EV charger?
Sometimes yes as-is, sometimes it needs a load calculation, and sometimes it genuinely needs an upgrade. A 40- or 50-amp circuit is a real addition to a 100-amp service. We check before quoting rather than discovering it with the drill in hand — and where space is the only issue, a smart splitter is sometimes a cheaper answer than a full upgrade.
Hardwired charger or a 14-50 outlet?
An outlet lets you unplug and take the charger with you, and it suits a renter or someone who expects to move. Hardwiring supports higher continuous current, is required for some outdoor installations, and removes the plug as a failure point. Either is fine when it is installed correctly; the plug is the more common thing to find done badly.
